The 3-2 Dallas Cowboys have won two straight to get back over .500 but still trail the surprising Washington Commanders in the NFC East. Next up for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys are the 3-1 Lions, who come to Dallas for Sunday’s game fresh from a bye week. The Lions are looking at the surprising and undefeated Vikings in the NFC North. If neither the Cowboys nor the Lions reach the teams above them in their division races, this game could have a big impact on deciding the NFC Wild Card teams at the end of the season.

The Lions and Cowboys start in Dallas 4:25 p.m. ET (1:25 p.m. PT) on Fox. Here’s how you can watch it even if the game isn’t available on your local Fox channel.

Here’s how to watch the Lions vs. Cowboys game online from anywhere using a VPN

If you cannot watch the game locally due to misapplied blackout restrictionsYou may need another way to watch the game and this is where using a VPN can help. A VPN is also the best way to prevent your ISP from throttling your speeds on game day by encrypting your traffic. Plus, it’s a great idea if you’re traveling and connected to a Wi-Fi network and want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

A VPN allows you to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to gain access to the game. So if your internet provider or cell phone provider has assigned you an IP address that incorrectly shows your location in a restricted zone, a VPN can fix this problem by assigning you an IP address in your correct, unlocked area. Most VPNs, like ours Editor’s Choice, ExpressVPNMake it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you are streaming. You should make sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even if VPNs are legal, the streaming service can terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

How to watch Lions vs. Cowboys in the USA

Sunday’s Lions vs. Cowboys game will be broadcast nationally on Fox. The good news for football fans is that Fox is available on most major live TV streaming services. The most affordable of these services is Sling TV Blue.

Sling/CNET

Sling TV’s Blue plan includes NBC, Fox, and the NFL Network, but not CBS, ABC, or ESPN. Enter your address here to see which local channels are available where you live. NFL RedZone is also available for an additional $11 per month.

Note that to get ABC and ESPN, you’ll need to switch to the similarly priced Orange plan (which drops Fox, NBC, and NFL Network) or opt for the combined Orange and Blue package for $60 per month , which contains channels from both packages. With the combined plan, the Sports Extra add-on, which includes RedZone, costs an additional $15 per month.

One important caveat: In our experience, local Fox partners are only available if your billing address is in one of the 18 metropolitan areas covered in the Sling agreement. If you are outside one of these areas, you are probably better off using one of the alternative services listed below.

Numerous other live TV streaming services also carry local Fox channels, namely YouTube TV, Hulu Plus Live TV, DirecTV Stream, and Fubo. They all cost a lot more than Sling, but also have a full range of live channels, including football broadcast channels like CBS and ESPN. For more information, see our guide to live TV streaming services.

For $73 per month, YouTube TV gets you all the major football channels. Additionally, RedZone is available for an additional $11 per month. On the YouTube TV welcome page, enter your zip code to see which local networks are available in your area.

Fubo

Fubo costs at least $92 per month when you factor in RSN fees, which you don’t need to watch NFL games but still have to pay. Fubo’s basic plan costs $80, but it charges an additional $12 per month if you get one RSN, or $15 per month if you have two or more in your area. RedZone is available for an additional $11 per month and the $90 per month Elite plan lets you get 4K broadcasts. It’s worth noting that Fubo recently introduced a new offer of $30 off for the first month on its Pro, Elite With Sports Plus, and Deluxe plans. An over-the-air antenna connected to your TV provides another option for Fox. The best thing about antennas is that there are no streaming or monthly fees, but you do need to make sure you have good reception.

Quick tips to stream the Lions vs. Cowboys game using a VPN

  • Because there are four variables at play – your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN – experience and success may vary.
  • If you don’t see your desired location as the default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “Search by city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble receiving the game after turning on your VPN and setting it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log in to your streaming service subscription account and ensure that the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing range. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file in your account. Second, some smart TVs – like Roku – don’t have VPN apps that you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll need to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you use (such as your phone) so that every device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main page for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases, with smart TV services, after you install a cable network’s sports app, you may be asked to confirm a numeric code or click a link that is sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. A VPN on your router also helps here, as both devices then appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember that browsers can often reveal a location despite using a VPN. Therefore, make sure you use a privacy-focused browser to log into your services. We usually recommend Brave.
