Two dead and one child seriously injured in collision with patrol car in Bakersfield

Bakersfield police are investigating a fatal car crash that left two people dead and another child, a 2-year-old, hospitalized.

BPD officers said they were involved in a traffic accident at the intersection of Niles Street and Kern Street around 5:40 a.m. on the morning of October 13, 2024

Witnesses reported that a patrol car was traveling west on the Nile when a northbound vehicle collided with the patrol car after failing to stop for the stop sign at the intersection.

The driver of the other vehicle was thrown from the car and died at the scene of the accident.

The passenger, a woman, was taken to a local hospital where she later died. A two-year-old child in the vehicle was also taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The officers in the patrol car were taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

Drugs and alcohol may have been a factor in the crash; Toxicology reports will confirm whether this was the case.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the identities of the deceased at a later date.

This is an ongoing investigation.
