Lance Heard was a five-star offensive tackle recruit in the 2023 class who spent his freshman season at LSU before transferring to Tennessee. With the Tigers, he earned All-Freshman SEC honors and played in all 12 regular season games. Heard did not allow a sack in 195 offensive snaps. However, this success has not been transferred to the volunteers. Prior to Week 7, he was credited with allowing eight pressures despite not giving up a sack in five games.

Heard was rated a four-star transfer after leaving LSU. In the portal he ranked 19th overall and 3rd at offensive tackle.
