Caretaker of 11-year-old girl who lost her entire family in a tragic car accident shares important update

More than $500,000 has been raised to support an 11-year-old who survived a fatal car crash that killed her entire family.

The orphaned girl, who has been given the name Poppie to protect her anonymity, lost her mother, father and two little sisters when her car collided with a motorcycle in Yorkshire, England, in July.

Her parents, Shane Roller and Shannen Morgan, were driving a Ford Focus with all three daughters in the car, but tragically nine-year-old Rubie and four-year-old Lillie were both killed in the accident.

The two motorcyclists they collided with also died in the collision.

Poppie was taken in by Paul Hepple, a close family friend who is providing updates on her welfare through a GoFundMe page set up for her.

Taking to the podium on Friday, he wrote: “It has been twelve weeks since the heartbreaking loss of Poppie’s family and eight weeks since my last update. I would like to apologize for the silence – I wanted to keep things quiet in the meantime.” The family is trying to grieve and cope with this heartbreaking tragedy, as well as ensuring that the funeral and other arrangements take place.

“An incredible £408,207 thanks to your incredible generosity [$533,485] was raised. The original target was £3,000 [$3,920] to help Poppie’s immediate needs, and I could never have imagined the amount of love and support that followed.

“22.5 thousand donations were received from people all over the world. The fundraiser is now complete with the amount raised far exceeding what anyone could have expected. This is truly remarkable.”

He further explained that the money hasn’t been touched yet and that “every single penny will go into a trust fund for Poppie” to support her “long into the future.”

Hepple continued: “Poppie is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances. She has bravely returned to school and although she was nervous at first, she is slowly getting used to it.”

“She is receiving therapy at school to help her deal with her loss. Poppie and her Aunt Faye have also received invaluable support from Brake, the road safety charity, which has been instrumental in helping them deal with the legal side of things and providing them with guidance.”
