Innocent driver killed after two women attack Hamtramck police officer, crash during high-speed chase

DETROIT (FOX 2)An innocent driver died Thursday morning when two women attacked three Hamtramck police officers before leading a police chase and hitting the other car.

The innocent driver was killed at the corner of Conant and E. McNichols in Detroit after two women drove away from police.

According to Hamtramck Police Chief Jamiel Altaheri, police stopped the women near Harold and Conant. He said that there they were attacked by the two women racing down the Conant.

“Three of my officers were injured today as a result of the stop – not the accident. Before the accident, they attacked my three officers and that’s how this pursuit began,” Altaheri said. “They disregarded the safety – the welfare – of everyone around them, cars and pedestrians. They obviously went through this red light here very quickly, as you can see, and ended up crashing into five cars.”

According to Altaheri, someone in the car was struck by the speeding car in the turning lane. After the accident, the two women tried to flee the scene.

However, they were caught and taken into custody.

Mohammad Ahmed was in a nearby accident repair shop when he heard a bang.

“We assume that there was perhaps a small accident there and the car tires were on fire. We ignored it. When we heard the police sirens, we saw a very bad accident here,” said Ahmed. “My condolences go out to the family. That could have been any of us. It’s just sad. Fortunately, the individuals, the perpetrators, are in custody.”

Police said the crash was still under investigation and no names would be released.
