Tragic day in Coimbatore: Three fatal accidents claim lives | Coimbatore News

Coimbatore: Three people, including a youth, died in three separate accidents at Ramanathapuram and Puliyakulam in the city on Saturday.
A 55-year-old man was run over by a tanker truck near Erimedu on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as K Manthirachalamfrom Balasubramaniyam Nagar in Puliyakulam. The city police’s Traffic Investigation Wing (TIW-East) said Manthirachalam was working as a private security guard at Kendriya Vidyalaya School in Meena Estate near Puliyakulam in the city. On Saturday morning, Manthirachalam and his friend Mani, 39, were walking on the street. As they were maneuvering a car parked on the side of the road, a septic tank truck traveling at high speed and traveling behind them crashed into the parked car. The impact caused the car to hit the duo, who fell onto the road. Manthirachalam fell under the wheels of the truck and died on the spot. “The speeding truck was driven rashly and negligently, which led to the accident,” a police officer said. The incident was captured on a surveillance camera and the footage went viral on social media. The TIW Police sent the body to Govt Medical College and ESI Hospital in Varadharajapuram for post-mortem. Police have registered a case against truck driver S. Praveen Kumar (24) of Kamarajar Nagar in Ramanathapuram. Further investigations are ongoing.
In another incident, a 74-year-old man was run over by a TNSTC city bus at Ramanathapuram junction on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as G. Selvaraj of Meena Estate in the city. TIW police said the accident occurred when he was returning home on his motorcycle after visiting a bank with his friend Rajagopal (68). When he reached Ramanathapuram junction, a TNSTC bus On the way from Ukkadam to Peedampalli, the motorcycle hit from behind. Selvaraj, who had fallen on the road, came under the wheels of the bus and died on the spot. The body was sent to Govt Medical College and ESI Hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered.
A 24-year-old youth died on Saturday evening after a speeding autorickshaw rammed his motorcycle. The deceased has been identified as M Dinesh of Periyar Nagar in Puliyakulam. According to police, he fell onto the street and suffered serious head injuries. He was rushed to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where he was declared dead. TIW East police have registered a case and are investigating.
