Babysitter is accused of beating and strangling several children under the age of three while in her care

ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) – A babysitter in Georgia faces multiple child cruelty charges.

Nohely Cabrera, 25, is accused of beating and strangling several children under the age of three.

Cobb County police said their investigation began when they received a call from a children’s hospital about a 10-month-old baby who had bruises on his body and face.

Investigators said they began searching for the child’s babysitter, later identified as Cabrera.

According to an arrest warrant, Cabrera pushed a child off a couch, punched him in the mouth, grabbed a child by the neck and placed her hands over the child’s mouth and nose while applying pressure to “force the child to remain silent.” incidents in the last few months.

Cabrera was taken into police custody this week on charges including aggravated assault and battery.

Neighbor Angelica Montalvo said Cabrera had been babysitting her 4-year-old daughter for the past year.

She said she was shocked by the news of her arrest because Cabrera was “a really great person” and someone her daughter enjoyed being around.

Montalvo lives in the same apartment complex as Cabrera. The arrest warrant states that the reported abuse occurred in Cabrera’s apartment while she was caring for several children.

Over the weekend, Montalvo said she received a text message from Cabrera telling her she could no longer care for her daughter. It came without explanation.

“I was scared, like had my daughter done something? What’s up? Is there something wrong with you? And she said: No. I asked, ‘When can I see you to get paid?’ And I never got a message back,” Montalvo said.

Cobb County police said there are currently four victims in the case, but there could be more.

Cabrera was booked into the Cobb County Jail without bail. Jail records show she is also being held in an ICE detention facility for the Department of Homeland Security.
