Rahul Gandhi blames BJP govt for train accident as accountability is questioned |

Chennai: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday criticized the BJP-led Union government for the train accident in Kavaraipettai in Tiruvallur district. When he too
Rahul questioned the Union government and asked when it would wake up: “Despite many deaths in numerous accidents, no lessons are being learned. Responsibility starts at the top. How many more families need to be destroyed before this government wakes up?” Rahul asked.
Reacting to Rahul’s comments, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs L Murugan asked Rahul Gandhi not to politicize the train accident. “His criticism amid the ongoing investigation seems immature,” Murugan said.
Expressing shock at the incident, Prime Minister Stalin said on X that a team had been appointed to provide food to the passengers and arrange alternative travel arrangements. After the train accident, Stalin assigned Minister for Minority Welfare Avadi Nasar and the district officer to supervise the rescue operations.
On Stalin’s instructions, Deputy CM Udhayanidhi visited the government’s Stanley Hospital to supervise the treatment of the injured.
Meanwhile, Congress president K. Selvaperunthagai blamed the Union government for the train accident. In a press release, Selvaperunthagai said that the Kavach safety system has been installed for only 1,465 km across India and demanded the resignation of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav.
CPM state secretary K. Balakrishnan and CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan said that the Union government’s “administrative incompetence” was the reason for the train accident.
