First report analyzing cannabis regulation in Missouri released

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Missouri’s Division of Cannabis Regulation has made “unprecedented efforts to ensure compliance,” according to its first annual report analyzing its effectiveness.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services announces that its Division of Cannabis Regulation released its first annual report of the Missouri Medical and Adult Use Cannabis Program on Friday, October 11. The department is required to submit a report on the efficiency of the department to the Governor and the General Assembly each year.

After voters approved the state’s medical program and implementation of DHSS in 2018, it is set to expand dramatically in 2023 with the passage of an amendment to the Missouri Constitution.

Executives noted that the provision means adult use is legal and that regulatory responsibility for the new industry has been given to the ministry. The annual report highlights measures to implement constitutional provisions and more.

“We have made significant and unprecedented efforts in the 2023 program year to ensure compliance, public health and safety, and financial opportunity for veterans, grant programs and communities in Missouri,” said Amy Moore, director of the Division of Cannabis Regulation. “We are grateful for our team who ensured that all constitutionally required deadlines were once again met, if not exceeded.”

Department officials said they will continue to implement the adult-use program, increase public awareness and program transparency, and begin operationalizing and accrediting the Missouri Cannabis State Reference Laboratory.
