Arrested after ‘road rage’ driver flees attack

Police say a driver was arrested after a man was attacked in traffic.

Just after midday on Saturday, Wiltshire Police received a report of an assault in Steele Close, Devizes, following an incident on London Road.

Officers stopped the suspect in his car on New Park Street. The collision saw a police vehicle rammed twice before the suspect attempted to flee on foot.

Police later arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving.

He has since been taken into custody for questioning.

The victim of the attack, a man in his 20s, suffered no injuries, police confirmed.

Insp Gav Brewster praised the “outstanding teamwork” required to make the arrest.

He said: “Within approximately 90 minutes, officers were able to locate and arrest the suspect in his vehicle, as well as securing the first crime scene in Steele Close and obtaining CCTV footage of the incident.”

“I appreciate that this incident took place in the middle of the day in the center of Devizes and there were numerous witnesses.

“If you have any concerns or would like to discuss anything, please do not hesitate to speak to one of our officers.”
