Scottish DJ Jackmaster has died in Ibiza at the age of 38

Internationally renowned Scottish DJ Jack Revill, known as Jackmaster, has died aged 38, his family announced on Saturday (October 12).

The co-founder of record label and club night Numbers was known for his eclectic tastes and ability to move seamlessly between genres.

“Jack tragically died on the morning of October 12th in Ibiza as a result of an accidental head injury,” read a statement on the musician’s Instagram page.

“His family – Kate, Sean and Johnny – are deeply heartbroken,” the post continued. “While the family is deeply touched by the overwhelming support from friends, colleagues and fans, they kindly request privacy as they cope with the immense sadness of this devastating loss.

“Jack’s passion for music and his tireless drive to push creative boundaries through his work at the Numbers label and Rubadub Records in Glasgow, including the discovery of countless innovative artists, made him a popular and pioneering figure in the world both before and behind him electronic music community the scenes.

“His talent for mixing genres and delivering electrifying DJ sets and production has earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and fans around the world. His legacy will continue to inspire and his impact on the world of dance music will remain indelible.”

Revill was born in Glasgow in 1986 and gained his first experiences at the Rubadub record store in Glasgow before becoming a regular at the techno party Monox at the age of 17. He received the “Breakthrough DJ” award. DJ Magazine‘s Best Of British Awards in 2010.

Revill was the subject of controversy in 2018 when he sexually assaulted several women at the Love Saves The Day festival in Bristol.

The DJ privately apologized to those he attacked and subsequently revealed that he had taken an overdose of GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate), a drug used to calm the nervous system, at the time of the incident.

“During the blackout that followed, I attempted to kiss and grab people against their will. “I am truly disgusted and ashamed of myself, and I do not want to use my substance abuse as an excuse for my actions,” he said in an August 2018 statement.

“I try to address my personal issues head-on by personally speaking to those involved, changing my lifestyle and advocating for support for others,” he added.

Numerous artists from across the electronic music scene paid tribute to Revill on Instagram on Saturday.

English duo Disclosure wrote: “I can’t believe this. heart broken. Thank you for all the great memories and inspiration, Jack. This is just terrible, terrible.

Ewan McVicar, a fellow Scottish DJ, wrote: “The best thing I’ve ever done and the reason I started all this.” Thank you for inspiring a generation with quality. Rest in peace.”

“Ready for Your Love” artist Gorgon City added: “We are so sorry. Love and condolences.”
