Reno resident arrested in Bakersfield after child dies

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KOLO) – Bakersfield police arrested two Reno residents after a child died in their care Thursday.

Police arrested 29-year-old Gregory Joseph MacDonald on charges of aggravated child abuse resulting in death. They arrested Chandy Ann McCarthy, 40, on child endangerment charges.

Police did not provide any information in the news release about the relationship between MacDonald and McCarthy or her relationship with the child.

Police went to a home in downtown Bakersfield Thursday because a 2-year-old girl was in medical distress. Police and emergency services provided life-saving assistance. The child was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

An investigation revealed the child had suffered traumatic injuries consistent with abuse. MacDonald and McCarthy were booked into the Kern County Jail. A second child at the home was taken into protective custody.
