Man dies after knife attack in Lowertown St. Paul

Police are investigating the stabbing death Friday of a man found in a gas station parking lot in St. Paul’s Lowertown neighborhood.

According to a news release, police were called to the parking lot about a stabbing at about 5:23 p.m. Friday. When they arrived, they found a man lying in the parking lot with apparent stab wounds. Officers administered first aid and called St. Paul firefighters. The man was taken to Regions Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

A suspect who remained at the scene was taken into custody. The preliminary investigation indicates that the man and the suspect were involved in an argument in the store prior to the stabbing.

The death is being investigated by the homicide squad.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine his exact cause of death.

The stabbing marks the 21st homicide of 2024 in St. Paul. This time last year there were 27 homicides.

The St. Paul Police Department is counting 20 homicides this year because the department’s records relate to cases investigated by the city’s police department. Another murder in St. Paul this year was investigated by Metro Transit Police.
