The US is carrying out airstrikes in Syria to avert an IS attack on American soil

US forces carried out a series of airstrikes against several IS camps in Washington on Friday Syria to “disrupt the terrorist group’s ability” to carry out attacks on American soil.
Washington authorities said there were no civilian casualties in the operation and that a damage assessment was underway.
“US central command forces conducted a series of airstrikes against multiple ISIS camps in Syria early on the morning of October 11th. The attacks will impact ISIS’s ability to plan, organize and carry out attacks against the United States, its allies and partners. and civilians across the region and beyond are ongoing and do not indicate civilian casualties. We will provide updates once the information is confirmed. US Central Command wrote on X.

The operation comes weeks after U.S. forces killed 37 militants from the extremist group Islamic State and an al-Qaeda-linked group in two airstrikes.
Two of the dead were high-ranking militants, it said.
U.S. Central Command said it attacked northwest Syria, targeting a senior militant from the al-Qaeda-linked Hurras al-Deen group and eight other people. They said he was responsible for overseeing military operations.
About 900 U.S. troops are stationed in Syria, along with an unknown number of contractors, mostly trying to prevent a comeback of the extremist IS group, which swept through Iraq and Syria in 2014 and seized control of large areas.
U.S. forces are advising and supporting their key allies in northeastern Syria, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, which are located close to strategic areas where Iranian-backed militant groups are present, including a key border crossing with Iraq.
