Darvin Ham speaks publicly about being fired by the Lakers

Many Los Angeles Lakers fans were very happy when their team fired Darvin Ham after he served as head coach during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. While his tenure began promisingly, leading the team to the Western Conference finals after a 2-10 start in his first season, last season was marked by sour sentiment.

According to multiple reports, the players simply didn’t seem to trust or believe in Ham’s coaching. A recent report stated that Lakers players “hated” playing for Ham.

Ham is now back with the Milwaukee Bucks, the team where he served as an assistant coach before being hired by the Lakers in 2022. He talked about being fired by LA and expressed his gratitude for getting the job in the first place.

About ESPN:

“The state of the team from the time they hired me to the day they fired me, I think it has improved. And that’s all I care about,” Ham, who was hired by Rivers in June, told ESPN on Thursday. “I put my heart and soul into this team and tried to improve it from there – 33-49. And in order to reach the Western Conference finals in a year, the boys have to benefit financially. Experiencing that excitement.” If I start next year and get sidelined by injuries and still manage to win the regular season tournament and make the playoffs, I’ll thank God every day.

“Again, I am completely grateful. I wish this franchise nothing but the best. I’m not mean, angry or bitter about anything. Some people have certain opinions and those are opinions, but when you really look at the facts, they exist.” For me personally, there’s not much to say.

So far, it looks like the Lakers approve of Redick’s coaching. Of course, they’ve only played three preseason games, and the real test for him will come during the regular season when the team hits a slump or suffers a tough or frustrating defeat.
