One dead after shooting and stabbing in Woodstock, suspect charged with murder

WOODSTOCK, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A 17-year-old man is charged with murder after a woman was killed and a man was injured in a shooting and stabbing in Woodstock early Thursday morning.

Woodstock police responded just before 4:30 a.m. to reports of shots fired at a residence on W. North Street. Officers found two victims in the front yard. Jocelyn Hicks, 32, suffered a stab wound and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Kevin Miller, 29, was treated for both a gunshot wound and a stab wound.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived and was later arrested in Warren County after a call came in about a suspicious person and a vehicle fire. The suspect suffered injuries in the fire and was taken to a Washington, D.C. hospital for treatment.

Authorities have charged the teen with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, shooting during the commission of a felony and using or displaying a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently awaiting extradition to Virginia.

Police say this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
