13-year-old accused of stabbing classmates outside school in Brownsville

According to the NYPD, a 13-year-old was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and fourth-degree weapons possession after stabbing a 13-year-old classmate outside Ocean Hill Boarding Middle School in Brownsville.

Police told News 12 the gun was recovered at the scene and the victim is in stable condition at an area hospital.

The knowledge that both the victim and the alleged perpetrator were students at the school causes parents to question how a weapon could be brought into a school building undetected.

“It is a very well respected school and it is very disappointing that something like this has happened and that a child is in hospital. And as a parent, I would like to know if something like this has happened in the past and what can be done to ensure the safety of our children,” said a mother who identified herself to News 12 as Mrs. Lewis.

News 12 reached out to the school and the Eagle Academy for Young Men, both listed at the school’s Herkimer Street address, for comment and did not receive a response.
