“Was too afraid to tell anyone”

Los Angeles:

R. Kelly’s daughter Buku Abi has made shocking allegations against the imprisoned singer in a new documentary for the TVEI Streaming Network. Buku claimed R. Kelly sexually abused her as a child, The Hollywood Reporter reported. “He was my everything. For a long time I didn’t even want to believe it happened. I didn’t know he would do something to me even if he was a bad person,” a tearful Buku told Abi R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey. “I was too scared to tell anyone. I was too scared to tell my mother.”

Her untold story is revealed in the two-part documentary, which features emotional interviews with Abi’s siblings Jaah and Robert Kelly Jr. and her mother Drea Kelly. “What he did to me, he did to me. But you didn’t have to do it to my damn kids,” his ex-wife said.

“I really feel like that one millisecond completely changed my entire life and who I was as a person and how the shine that I had and the light that I carried was changed. After I told my mom, I stopped going there,” Abi said, via People. “My brother (Robert) and my sister (Jaah), we stopped going there. And even up to now I have a lot of trouble with it.”

“Mr. Kelly vehemently denies these allegations,” Kelly’s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean of New York-based Bonjean Law Group, said in a statement to People. “His ex-wife made the same claim years ago, which was investigated by the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services and was unfounded…And the ‘filmmakers,’ whoever they are, have not contacted Mr. Kelly” or his team to even allow him to deny these hurtful claims.

In 2021, Kelly, who became an R&B superstar thanks to his anthem “I Believe I Can Fly,” was convicted following a sex trafficking trial after decades of evading criminal responsibility for numerous allegations of misconduct toward young women and children had.

According to People, Kelly was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Chicago in February 2023 for child pornography and enticing minors for sex. The year before, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for extortion and sex trafficking in New York.
