Man arrested in fatal crash, police chase linked to street shooting in Sandy

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – A man arrested after a police pursuit ended in a fatal crash in West Valley City has been linked to a road rage shooting in Sandy.

Sandy police said an arrest was made in connection with a traffic accident on September 8th at 1:30 p.m. on 1300 East near 9400 South.

In this case, the victim’s vehicle fled from the suspected motorcyclist, now identified as 23-year-old Cesar Omar Perez, who was pursuing the victim. As the victim turned onto Buttercup Drive, Perez retrieved a handgun from one of the motorcycle’s saddlebags and fired a round at the victim.

Perez was originally arrested after a police chase in West Valley City ended in a crash at Valley Fair Mall that killed a woman. He is then charged with several criminal charges, including first-degree murder.

West Valley City police had originally stopped Perez in a park for allegedly smoking marijuana before fleeing and stole an electrician’s vehicle before driving away.
