Manhunt for knifeman following stabbing at Victoria train station

A manhunt has been launched for a stabber following a knife attack at London’s Victoria train station during rush hour.

According to the police, there was a fight between two men at the subway station on Friday evening around 5:25 p.m., in which one of them was stabbed.

The man was taken to hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening, while the second man, in his 40s or 50s with a brown beard, fled the scene.

The incident sparked chaos as paramedics and British Transport Police rushed to the scene while subway passengers were escorted down a single escalator amid an announcement that the descending escalators would remain closed for the rest of the day.

A white screen was placed at the base of the escalators to block commuters’ view of the aftermath. The Telegraph saw red bandages and medical equipment strewn across the floor, while a black suitcase lay discarded.

Commuters were crammed onto diversions around the closed passageway and at one point traffic was stopped entirely so police could conduct a search of the tracks.

Det Insp Ian Wright of British Transport Police said: “There is no place for violence on the rail network and investigators are working diligently to investigate the incident.”

“Passengers will experience an increased uniformed presence at the station while they process their requests.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 5.26pm on Friday October 11 to reports of an incident at Victoria tube station.

“We sent several forces to the scene of the accident, including a rapid response vehicle, a paramedic and an operations manager. We also dispatched the London Rescue Helicopter.

“The first of our crews arrived in about three minutes.

“We treated one patient at the scene before transporting him to a major trauma center.”

A BTP spokesman said: “Detectives investigating a serious assault are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“Officers were called to Victoria tube station at 5.26pm today [Oct 11] to reports of an altercation between two men. Paramedics were also on scene and a man was treated at the scene for an injury resulting from a stabbing.

“He was taken to hospital and the injury is not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

“The second man who left the area was described as being around 5ft 7in tall, white, around 40 or 50 years old, with short brown hair and a brown beard.”
