Three other people, a 72-year-old man, a 19-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman, were taken to Forth Valley Royal Infirmary for treatment of minor injuries following the incident.

Neighbor Rosie Adamson was watching TV when she heard an “almighty bang”.

“It was like an inferno.”

An investigation is underway to determine the source of the explosion in Alloa

Footage shared with STV News shows a mass of orange flames erupting from the property, accompanied by a loud bang.

Thick smoke pours from the blast zone, causing the public to rush towards the incident.

The explosion tore off part of the property’s roof and left a gaping hole in the first floor of the building.

Following the explosion, multi-agency police, fire and ambulance crews rushed to the scene, while Scottish Gas Network engineers were also on site to ensure the area was made safe.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were made aware of multiple reports of an explosion and fire at a house in Kellie Place, Alloa, at 6pm on Sunday 6 October.

“The incident command immediately mobilized a number of resources for the specialist Urban Search and Rescue Unit and a heavy rescue unit.

“Three people were rescued from the building and required treatment for minor injuries.

“Unfortunately, a man who was in the building at the time of the explosion was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Emergency officers left the scene after ensuring the area was safe. However, the public will be able to view equipment at the scene as we continue to monitor the building and assist with investigative efforts.”

Keith Brown, MSP for the Clackmannanshire and Dunblane constituency, said: “My immediate thoughts go out to the family and friends of the late man and I send my best wishes to those injured for a full and speedy recovery.”

“As always, the emergency services in such situations deserve huge thanks for the way they responded.

“There will understandably be concerns about the cause of this explosion and the extent of damage to other homes, particularly among residents of neighboring properties.

“I know that the relevant authorities will work hard to provide information, security and assistance as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
