Three have been arrested for the shooting death of a 13-year-old in Kinston

KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – Three people have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 13-year-old in an eastern Carolina town earlier this week.

Kinston police have charged 24-year-old Majyia Bryant of Kinston, 27-year-old Justice Hicks of La Grange and 23-year-old Zarek Mattocks of Kinston with attempted first-degree murder and six counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, aggravated conspiracy and secret malicious wounding.

Both Hicks and Mattocks also face charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, while Hicks also faces multiple drug charges. Police say drugs and a gun were found during Hicks’ arrest and a search of the home on North Adkin Street.

Bryant and Hicks were both nabbed on Thursday, while Hicks was caught at a home on Darby Avenue around 7 a.m. this morning, according to police.

The 13-year-old was shot near the Jack Rountree Apartments on Viking Drive around 8 p.m. Wednesday. According to officials, the teenager was hit in the arm by the shots.
