Kindergarten teacher hit the road after sexually harassing colleagues and throwing foam bricks at children

A kindergarten teacher has been struck off the register after a report said he sexually harassed colleagues and threw foam bricks at children.

Dean Gilchrist reportedly slapped a colleague on the bottom three times at a Glasgow nursery school and commented on the size of another colleague’s breasts.

He allegedly used racially offensive names to describe ethnic minority children in his care. Gilchrist also reportedly used offensive language when referring to children with special needs.

In August 2023, the former head kindergarten teacher allegedly made two children cry by throwing foam rocks at them.

The Scottish Social Services Council said Gilchrist had demonstrated a “pattern of serious and worrying behavior” and concluded that removal from the register was the only viable option.

The report said: “Their behavior indicates serious underlying attitudinal and values concerns and is fundamentally inconsistent with registration in a trustworthy and caring profession.”

“You completely deny the behavior. They show no insight and given the pattern of behavior we have serious concerns that the behavior could be repeated. A repeat would put the vulnerable people in your care at risk of physical and emotional harm. It would also expose your colleagues to emotional and emotional risks
psychological damage.”
