George Baldock’s distraught fiancée has shared a moving tribute to her “soulmate” as tributes continue to pour in for the former Sheffield United star following his tragic death aged 31.

The Greek international’s body was found in his swimming pool at his Athens residence on Wednesday. He leaves behind his young son Brody and his fiancée Annabel Dignam, who shared a heartbreaking tribute on her private Instagram account.

She shared a picture of the couple smiling together on her account and wrote: “George, the love of my life, my soul mate. The perfect father to our beautiful boy.”

“You completed me. You were my world and I know we were yours. You’re here with me with Brody’s smile, giggle and infectious personality. My world will never be the same, but I will find a way for Brody. I promise.”

George’s family previously issued their own statement highlighting the profound impact he had on their lives: They wrote: “You were the most special father, fiancé, son, brother, uncle, friend, teammate and human being.”

“Your enthusiasm and infectious personality brought so much love to those who were fortunate enough to know you and those who adored you in the stands. We will forever cherish the special memories we have of you and you will live on in your beautiful son.” .

“You were supposed to fly home today so we could celebrate his first birthday together, but instead we mourn your loss. As a family, it was incredibly touching, but also very difficult, to read the huge number of tributes written by those who knew George and by those whose lives he touched.

“It was impossible not to love him. We ask that you continue to respect our privacy during this devastating time as we begin to process our grief.”

The Greek international had moved from Sheffield United to Panathinkaikos and qualified for the national team through his grandmother.

Among others who paid their respects to George was Pavlos, Crown Prince of Greece, who took to social media to express his sadness. He posted a photo of the player on his Instagram story with the words “RIP George Baldock.”

Sheffield United also shared a number of social media posts. Their statement said: “Sheffield United Football Club is shocked and extremely saddened to learn of the death of former player George Baldock.”

“The defender, who left Bramall Lane after an impressive seven-year spell, had impressed fans, colleagues and teammates with his commitment to the team. The entire Sheffield United community extends its deepest condolences to George’s loved ones.”
