Barack Obama is pushing to vote for Kamala Harris in the ‘close’ presidential race

Former President Barack Obama has urged Americans to vote for Kamala Harris, warning of a “tight” race between her and Donald Trump for the White House in less than a month.

At Thursday’s campaign rally in Pittsburgh in the swing state of Pennsylvania, he urged the audience to “put down the phone, grab friends and family and vote for the current Democratic vice president” in the US election on November 5th.

Obama also attacked her Republican rival Trump on various issues – including the economy and abortion.

Meanwhile, Trump campaigned in Detroit, another battleground state of Michigan, on Thursday and accused the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris administration of “destroying our country.”

The US presidential election is expected to be decided by a handful of states – including Pennsylvania – where both candidates have a chance of winning.

In a speech at the University of Pittsburgh, Obama said, “This election will be close because there are still a lot of Americans out there who are having a hard time.”

“It’s not just about policies that are on the ballot. It’s about values,” he added.

He condemned Trump as a selfish politician who only cared about “his ego, his money and his status.”

“He’s not thinking about you,” he said, accusing Trump of “trying to tear down the Affordable Care Act” — an important law that millions of Americans rely on.

The 44th US president and his wife Michelle Obama publicly supported Harris in July, shortly after Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the race for the White House.

Meanwhile, in Detroit, Trump gave a more than hour-long speech to a crowd on a wide range of topics, from election rules to tariffs on China.

Much of his speech focused on his claims that the U.S. auto industry is failing – part of his broader message that the country’s economy is suffering.

“They are destroying our country,” he said of the Biden-Harris administration. She accused her of failing autoworkers and claimed too many jobs had been relocated to Mexico.

Also on Thursday, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris was in Nevada trying to win support from Latino voters.
