“Eagles’ Star Addresses Social Media Drama”

“Eagles’ Star Addresses Social Media Drama”

PHILADELPHIA – There is no discrepancy between Eagles defensemen Darius Slay and CJ Gardner-Johnson, thanks to the former’s appearance on Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons’ podcast.

For those who avoid such things, Slay appeared on Parsons’ podcast after Gardner-Johnson and the Cowboys’ All-Pro edge rusher argued with Gardner-Johnson on social media over topics like Derek Carr and Mike Evans. Slay eventually “intervened” in the fight by laughing with Parsons about Gardner-Johnson’s rather large personality.

Slay addressed the issue on his own podcast, but that didn’t stop several reporters from asking before practice Thursday.

“We’re all doing well,” Slay said when asked about Gardner-Johnson. “I don’t know why it got so out of control. I know I didn’t say anything bad or anything like that about him. But that was easy to sort out. It wasn’t that difficult. It was more.” As for the fans…It wasn’t anything that big.

A lot of the fans’ fear had more to do with the fact that Slay was friends with Parsons, and that doesn’t change.

“Me and Micah are really cool. I’ll most likely be on his podcast again,” Slay admitted. “We were friends in that way before football and we tried to be friends after football too. This is what we do for each other. We help each other.”

Slay was also asked if Eagles fans questioned his leadership as team captain.

“Fans have their opinions. I definitely love all the fans. These guys voted me captain for a reason,” Slay told his teammates. “You know I’m not that guy. I’m a very happy guy. Energy type. A guy who advocates for everyone in this building.”

“I try to give everyone the best concepts so they can be great at what they do. I’m always here to help Chauncey be his best. I’m here to help Q.” [Quinyon Mitchell]and frankly, everyone in this building. That’s my role. That’s what I do best: just bring that light to everyone.

“I’m not one of those tough guys who yells, fusses, yaps and insults people like that. That’s not how I was raised.”

Slay backed down on one thing – he responded with personal praise to the fans who took shots at his game.

“I just got out of control. That shouldn’t be my character. I’m not that type of person,” the veteran said. “But this is the first time I’ve let fans get close to me. This will never happen again… But I put a lot of work into this game… It’s cool. If I have a bad game, I expect it.”

As for Gardner-Johnson, Slays wants the playmaker’s safety to remain in the conversation.

“Hell yeah! That’s what he does,” Slay said. “He speaks for me. There are things I’d like to say, but I like to keep my peace and just relax. 8 can definitely say it for me. I appreciate him, man. He brings a lot to the table.” “He’s a guy who brings a different kind of energy that I bring here.”
