Man killed in officer-involved shooting in Arlington Manor area

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in the Arlington Manor area Thursday evening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Around 4 p.m., police said officers were monitoring “some known gang members” who were “waving weapons back and forth” and engaging in drug-related activities.

After noticing this, officers said they devised a plan to go upstairs and make contact with the three people involved.

As officers approached them, two of the three followed their commands, according to JSO. However, police said the third ran away with his gun and an officer followed him.

Police said the man pulled out the gun and the officer shot him four times. The man then fell to the ground and dropped the weapon.

The officer continued to give him commands while he was on the ground, but according to police, he did not comply and instead stood up and raised his hands.

According to JSO, the man injured in the shooting continued to run from the officer and jumped over a wall.

Shortly afterwards, officers were able to find him and take him into custody.

Officers then began rendering aid until first responders took him to a nearby hospital, where he died.

Police did not identify the man but said he was 30 years old.

The other two suspects remained at the scene and were arrested, according to JSO.

JSO identified the officer involved in the shooting as Bradley Griffitts, who had worked for the sheriff’s office for six years.

According to JSO, this was the fifth officer-involved shooting this year.

The prosecutor’s office is conducting an independent investigation into this incident.
