Accident in Anaheim: Video shows suspected driver under the influence of alcohol driving off the road in an accident, killing a woman

ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) — Home surveillance video was captured as a suspected drunk driver veered off the road and crashed, killing a woman while she was walking in Anaheim.

According to police, the accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near Wagner Avenue and Rio Vista Street, near the Anaheim Coves Trail and the Santa Ana River.

Footage obtained by Eyewitness News shows a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan crashing into a small wooden fence in an instant. Then the car appears to fly into the air.

According to police, the driver of the Mercedes – 33-year-old Raymundo Rangel of Santa Ana – failed to make a sharp 90-degree left turn onto Rio Vista Street, crashed into a grass belt and landed in the riverbed.

A woman walking in Anaheim was killed after a suspected drunk driver drove off the road and crashed into her, police said.

Rangel and a passenger were taken to the hospital. According to investigators, he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Police believed no one else had been injured until a man reported that his wife had not returned home from a walk along the Greenbelt. The woman was later found dead in nearby bushes after a search.

The victim was identified as 49-year-old Jessica Ferrino.

According to police, Rangel faces several charges, including drunk driving and negligent homicide.

People who live in the community are hoping something can be done to slow drivers down on the dangerous curve.
