Accident shatters windows in downtown – Evanston Now

On Thursday afternoon, two people apparently tripped and fell into a large store window in downtown Evanston, breaking the glass and injuring the people.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. at the Accents Plus women’s clothing store at the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Davis Street.

Store owner Virginia Escalante said two elderly people were involved.

Escalante said she found the man and woman on the sidewalk on Davis Street after they crashed into the window, with the man apparently hitting it first.

“We picked her up and stopped her,” Escalante told Evanston Now.

The Evanston Fire Department responded, assisted the victims and also removed some of the hanging glass shards.

Escalante said it did not appear the two people were seriously injured, but they were taken to the hospital.

The window will be boarded up, Escalante said, and eventually replaced.

“It’s just a small inconvenience for us,” she said, “but this poor guy [who went through the window] could have been killed.”
