Fire Weather Watch Friday, parts of Mid-Michigan are now in the drought phase

Mid-Michigan (WNEM) – We know it’s been dry lately, but up until this point we’ve been able to avoid going into drought through the summer months and early fall.

That changed today with the latest update from the U.S. Drought Monitor, with portions of Arenac, Iosco and Huron counties moving into the moderate drought phase. All other areas in Mid-Michigan are now considered at least unusually dry.

In addition to the new Drought Monitor update, we will have fire weather watches in place across most of the TV5 viewing area from Friday morning until 8pm Friday evening. The combination of warm temperatures, gusty winds and dry conditions creates dangerous fire conditions.

There may be warnings on Friday morning. Please continue to avoid burns.
