Police were involved in the fatal shooting of the Taylorsville theft suspect

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah – Police in Taylorsville have confirmed that one of their officers was involved in the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old man who was allegedly driving a stolen car. The incident is currently under investigation by the Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake.

Police told FOX 13 News the incident began at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday in Taylorsville. There, officers found a stolen car whose driver had previously fled from Salt Lake City police.

Officers tracked the vehicle from a distance and through the air using a Department of Public Safety helicopter. The suspect eventually drove into a parking lot in the area of ​​3900 South and 300 West.

After a traffic stop, police found two people, the male driver and a female passenger, in the car and then fired shots.

Only one Taylorsville Police Department officer shot the suspect, although it is not known what led to the shooting.

The unknown suspect died from his injuries at the scene.
