Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries law enforcement officers arrested a Monterey man on September 26 for alleged boating safety violations in Concordia Parish.

Officers arrested 26-year-old Bradley Edwards for his fourth offense: driving or operating a boat or vehicle under the influence of alcohol (DWI), first-degree negligent injury, negligent operation of a watercraft, operating a watercraft while license suspended and overpowering a motorboat.

Officers were notified of a single-vessel boating incident in Horseshoe Lake on the night of August 30th. Agents learned that Edwards was operating a 16-foot vessel with a 90-horsepower engine at high speed in the lake with a passenger at night when he crashed into a pier, throwing himself into the water and the passenger onto the pier.

Edwards and the passenger were taken to Trinity Medical Center, where both were treated for serious injuries.

During the investigation, officers determined that Edwards was impaired at the time of the incident and his driver’s license was revoked. Agents sent Edwards to Concordia Prison.

Fourth offense DWI carries a fine of up to $5,000 and a prison sentence of 10 to 30 years. First-degree negligent vehicular assault is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and six months in prison. Careless operation of a watercraft can result in a fine of up to $300 and 30 days in jail. Operating a watercraft while your license is suspended can result in a prison sentence of up to one year. Overpowering a motorboat can result in a fine of up to $50.

Agents involved in this case include Captain Trey Mason, Sgt. Jesse Davis, Corporal Cole Cupit, Corporal Jeremy Fletcher, Senior Agent Dustin Barton and Senior Agent Jamyson Loomis.
