Mayor Henyard files lawsuit over meeting outside Village Hall – NBC Chicago

The drama continues in Dolton.

Mayor Tiffany Henyard is taking legal action over a meeting that took place outside the municipal building earlier this week.

Henyard and two trustees are named in the lawsuit obtained by NBC 5.

They are asking a judge to declare Dolton’s Village Hall the principal place for conducting village business and to declare that there have been no meetings at the village hall since September 3rdapprox – be declared void, as well as all regulations issued.

On Monday, most of the trustees, the village clerk and the village manager attended a park district meeting. All are named as defendants in the lawsuit.

The mayor also held a meeting that evening, which was canceled due to a lack of quorum.

Trustee Jason House, deputy mayor, told NBC-5 the meeting was held at the Park District community center due to ongoing capacity issues.

“The attorney general gave us a firm opinion that gatherings at the town hall were not legal – they violated the Open Meetings Act, meaning there was not enough space for residents and others,” he said.

We have reached out to the attorney for the mayor and the majority of trustees for comment.
