Changemakers’ pitches at IUCN Leaders Forum 2024 show that investing in nature is good for business – Story

SOS Biotech is the first BlueTech company from the Dominican Republic, founded to transform the Caribbean into a global Blue Hub. It uses the invasion of algae to create sustainable ecological and economic solutions through the development of innovative products.

To date, SOS Biotech has launched Marine Symbiotic, an agricultural biostimulant that strengthens crop resilience, increases yields and reduces dependence on synthetic fertilizers; and Marine Blossom, an extract that extends the lifespan of flowers. Ongoing research and development includes cosmetic extracts, hydroponic substrates, animal feed, bioplastics and biomaterials.

SOS Biotech’s mission is to show that nature, even in the form of perceived crises such as algae invasion, is an ally, providing raw materials for new industries and the creation of sustainable jobs. The blue economy provides a path for coastal regions to thrive and highlights our deep connection to the sea for sustainable development.
