Sadly, Baldock passed away

The defender moved to Greek giants Panathinaikos in the summer after leaving Sheffield United.

Baldock was a huge fan favorite at Bramall Lane and before England play Greece in the Nations League, the Three Lions will honor him.

How will England remember Baldock?

To mark the tragic news of Baldock’s death, England and Greece will wear black armbands.

There will also be a minute’s silence before kick-off to remember Baldock and Kick It Out founder Lord Herman Ouseley, who died last week aged 79.

Greece will also wear black armbands against the Republic of Ireland at the weekend.

Giorgos Vagiannidis and Tasos Bakasetas, his Panathinaikos teammates, are both in the Greek team and could start at Wembley.

In a statement, his family confirmed the news, saying: “We can confirm that George has sadly passed away.”

“As a family we are shocked by this terrible loss. We ask the media to respect our privacy during this time.”

The Greek national team also released a statement.

“It is with deep sadness and sadness that the national team and the Greek Football Association bid farewell to George Baldock.

“There are no words to describe the human pain caused by the news of the unexpected loss of one of our young men. The moment forces silence. Condolences to his family. Condolences to his second family.”

Baldock, who earned 12 caps for Greece, spent seven years at Sheffield United, making 219 appearances for the club.

He helped them to two promotions and played three years in the Premier League.

And the Blades also paid their respects.

“Sheffield United Football Club is shocked and extremely saddened to learn of the death of former player George Baldock.

“The defender left the club in the summer after seven years at Bramall Lane and was extremely popular with fans, staff and team-mates who wore a red and white jersey alongside him.”

“The sincere condolences of everyone associated with Sheffield United go out to George’s family and friends.”

The right-back also spent time at MK Dons with Dele Alli, and the former England international posted a touching message about Baldock on Instagram.
