Experience spooky, silly Halloween fun at these Pennsylvania attractions

October is here, also known as the spooky season. From pumpkin patches to scary movies and haunted attractions, this is the perfect time to enjoy all things frightening.

Pennsylvania offers plenty of activities to get you in the fall and Halloween spirit, from kid-friendly to leave-the-kids-at-home. Check out the list below of the haunted attractions and events happening in the region and beyond this month.

Field of Screams – October 4th to November 15th

Address: 191 College Ave., Mountville

The popular Lancaster County Halloween attraction features four main attractions as well as fun activities like ax throwing and themed drinks at its 21+ “Chainsaw Bar.” Field of Screams also offers “extreme blackout” nights on certain days in October, making the experience even more immersive.

Hersheypark Dark Nights – Now through November 3rd

Address: 100 Hersheypark Dr., Hershey

Cost: Tickets start at $45.99

Hersheypark offers guests the opportunity to walk through five themed haunted houses and take visitors through a haunted coal mine and an “Evil Mansion.” The park also features additional “scary zones,” a trick-or-treating area for kids, and spooky drinks at the 21+ “Spirits” rooftop bar.

Dutch Wonderland: Happy Hauntings – Now through October 27th

Address: 2249 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster

Cost: Tickets start at $39.99

Hours: Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m

The park is designed for children, so these “haunted experiences” do not involve any crazy fears. Kids can trick-or-treat at the park’s Halloween shows, watch a costume parade, and hear some “not-so-scary” stories.

Knoebels: Hello Fun 4th-27th Oct

Address: 391 Knobles Blvd., Route 487, Elysburg

Hours: Opening times vary

Cost: Passes start at $22

Attendees can decorate cookies, play bingo and paint pumpkins in the morning, then make their way to the Scream Machine puppet theater, try out the fast-paced rides in the dark or watch the music and lights of Ghosts and Gourds show. The park also offers fun Halloween treats and drinks.

Shocktoberfest – October 4th to November 9th

Address: 94 Park Ave., Sinking Spring

Hours: Opening times vary

Cost: Tickets start at $30

The haunted attraction is located in a large field and offers 11 activities, including an escape room, a “zombie safari” hayride and a festive 21+ bar. There’s even a separate, less scary area for children.

Halloween Nights at Eastern State Pentitinary – Now through November 9th

Address: 2027 Fairmount Ave., Philadelphia

Hours: Opening times vary

Cost: Tickets start at $39

Considered one of the most haunted locations in Pennsylvania, Eastern State Pentitinary features five spooky sections and a new “Behind the Veil” feature that allows guests to scan a QR code to learn more about each attraction’s plot experience . Guests can also spend time in the beer garden or enjoy a “Halloween Nights: Remixed” experience, where they can tour select attractions in complete darkness.

Jason’s Woods – October 4th to November 2nd

Address: 179 Stehman Road, Lancaster

Hours: Fri-Sat: 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. and Sun: 7 p.m. – 9 p.m

Cost: Tickets start at $25

In addition to the frights at the Field of Screams, Lancaster County is also home to Jason’s Woods, which invites guests to journey through several attractions: Zombie Apocalypse, Chambers of Horrors and Horrifying Hayride. The attraction also offers special events on certain evenings and live music on Fridays and Saturdays.

Pennhurst Asylum – Now through November 2nd

Address: 601 N. Church St., Spring City

Hours: Friday to Saturday from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Cost: Tickets start at $52

The asylum offers four attractions, including the Pennhurst Tunnels and The Morgue. Guests also have the opportunity to take day tours and participate in overnight paranormal investigations.

Shippensburg Pumpkin Fest – June 26-27 October

Address: Shippensburg Fairgrounds, 10131 Possum Hollow Road, Shippensburg

Hours: October 26th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and October 27th from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost: Free

The event will feature live pumpkin carving on Oct. 26, and guests can take part in a hayride, pony ride, and jump around on inflatables. There will also be food trucks and a visit from pumpkin artist Danny Kissel, who was featured on the Food Network.

Pumpkin Palooza – 19th-20th Oct. and 26-27. Oct

Address: Hershey Gardens, 170 Hotel Hershey Road, Hershey

Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m

Cost: General admission for ages 13 to 6 is $16.50. Seniors 62 and older pay $15.50. Juniors ages 3 to 12 pay $12.50. Children under two and Hershey Gardens members are admitted free.

Kids can come in costume and partake in some fun trick-or-treating at four candy stations, face painting and a gallery of spooky creatures. There will also be food trucks, a large selection of painted pumpkins and a 14-foot pumpkin tree.

National Clock Museum: Pumpkins and Pendulums – Oct. 26

Address: 514 Poplar St., Columbia

Hours: 12-3 p.m

Cost: Children 5 and under are admitted free, children ages 6 to 17 are $5. Adults are $15 and seniors are $10. Family packages are available for $30.

This family-friendly event features trick-or-treating at the museum, crafts, games and more. Families also have the opportunity to purchase groceries and decorate pumpkins.

Gretna Theater: Headless Horseman – 10-19 October

Address: Porch & Pantry, 106 Chautauqua Dr., Mt. Gretna

Hours: Show times vary

Cost: Tickets start at $39

This immersive outdoor experience allows guests to listen to the Headless Horseman stories and watch them come to life. The show is recommended for ages 10 and up.
