Court documents show the men monitored the stores and even disguised themselves as police officers to scare potential witnesses into leaving the area.

When the stores were empty, they allegedly cut the power and used tools to break open the back doors. Once inside, they reportedly disabled alarms, wore masks and gloves, and used chemicals to destroy any DNA evidence that suggested they were there.

The duo allegedly used special tools to open or remove the safes.

Their crime spree ended last month when Phoenix police got wind of the break-ins.

Family Dollar employees noticed the suspects’ Chevy Impala parked in the front with its lights and engine on and notified police. An undercover detective then matched the car to a car connected to the burglaries.

Investigators say cell phone data shows both Martinez and Alvarez were at the scene from nine different stores.

On Oct. 4, the department’s dive team found a safe that the two men had thrown into the river the day before matched a safe that had been stolen from a Family Dollar.

Martinez and Alvarez were arrested and face multiple burglary charges. Her next court date is October 10th.
