Woman dies after being shot in her home

CLOVIS, NM (KFDA) – A woman has died after being shot at her home in Clovis on Wednesday.

According to Clovis police, an 80-year-old man called 911 around 7 p.m. to report that his wife had been shot when she opened their front door.

Officers responded to the call near Traver Street and Vinton Street and found 78-year-old Virginia Montoya, who had been shot once in the chest.

Montoya was taken to an area hospital but did not survive.

The 9th Judicial District Major Crimes Unit has been assigned to investigate the shooting.

Clovis police are asking residents in the Traver area to check their home’s security cameras if they may have captured relevant images.
