UPDATED – 4:15 p.m., 10/9/24

A man was criminally charged Wednesday after police investigated a shots fired call in Charleston.

Andre Lemar Welsh, 22, of Charleston, was charged with wanton endangerment with a firearm, according to a criminal complaint in Kanawha County District Court.

The complaint states that police were dispatched to the intersection of Dayton Drive and Crescent Road on Wednesday afternoon where two suspects were arrested.

Welsh told police that he fired a handgun and discarded it after being robbed, but did not provide any information about the alleged robbery, according to court records.

Investigators reported finding several 10mm cartridges along Dayton Drive, and the second arrested suspect was found to have a magazine containing unspent cartridges of the same caliber.

“At this time, there is no clear evidence that Mr. Welsh was robbed and he refused to make any further statements,” the complaint states. “Due to the close proximity of businesses and residences in the area where Mr. Welsh fired his handgun, he will be charged.”
