Stanford vs. Notre Dame prediction: odds, expert picks, names you should know, betting trends and stats

The Stanford Cardinals (2-3) travel to South Bend this Saturday to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-1) in a crucial matchup for both teams. After two straight losses, the Cardinals are hoping to get back on the winning list this weekend.

Stanford struggled primarily on defense. They have given up at least 30 points to three of their four Power 4 opponents. It wasn’t until the game against Syracuse that they managed to keep Syracuse to under 25 points.

Offensively, they struggled with the loss of starting quarterback Ashton Daniels due to injury. Last week against Virginia Tech, they were only able to muster 258 yards of total offense and only scored once.

Daniels is expected to return against Notre Dame, which should provide a significant boost to the Cardinal’s offense.

Notre Dame appears to have put its early-season upset in South Bend against unranked Northern Illinois behind it, rattling off three straight wins, including one against a ranked Louisville.

Since there’s a good chance they won’t play any more ranked games this season, they’ll need to win to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff.

This meeting is the 37thTh between the teams. Notre Dame has won four of its last five games, including a huge 56-23 win over Stanford last season.

NBC Sports Betting Brad Thomas (@MrBradThomas) likes the idea of getting 22.5 points:
“Notre Dame is on a roll with two strong games against Louisville and Miami (OH). They are 3-2 this season, but the way they are, I think we have to get the points here. If there’s anything Stanford is strong at, it’s their rush defense. They will challenge Notre Dame to beat them through the air. Slow down the game and milk the clock. The spread might be too big.”
