Sean “Diddy” Combs claims the government leaked a video of him attacking Cassie

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team is now accusing the government of leaking the infamous video of him attacking his ex-girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura to the media, among other things, as his legal battle continues.

Surveillance video was released in May that showed the disgraced music mogul in a heated physical altercation with Ventura and has since become a key focus in prosecutors’ case against Combs, who is accused of racketeering, sex trafficking and promoting prostitution.

According to his latest filing, obtained by Page Six, Combs’ attorney claims a government agent leaked the video to CNN with the intent of “deadly damaging its reputation and increasing the prospect of Sean Combs successfully defending himself against these allegations.” .

“Rather than use the videotape as trial evidence, along with other evidence that gives it context and.”
“That is, the agents abused it in the most detrimental and harmful way possible,” the legal documents say.

“The government knew what it had: a frankly deplorable video recording of Sean Combs in a towel punching, kicking and dragging a woman on camera in the hotel hallway.”

Shortly after the video was released in 2016, Combs spoke out about his attack on his ex-girlfriend, saying he was “crazy” and had “hit rock bottom” at that point.

His lawyers, Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, are asking that the video be suppressed if the court finds that a government agent was behind the video’s distribution.

The lawyers also addressed the Department of Homeland Security twice in the legal documents, saying the government agency’s search of his property on March 25 was an attempt by DHS to “attract sensational media coverage.”

The legal team further alleges that government officials at the Department of Homeland Security made “inflammatory” statements to the press, which “all but ensured” the possibility of interference with the grand jury and the public.

“The government’s plan to undermine Mr. Combs’ right to a fair trial involves multiple methods and means. First, over the past seven months, there has been a steady stream of false and biased statements from DHS agents to various press outlets. “Second, the agents conducted a particularly brutal and public search of Mr. Combs’ homes, handcuffing Mr. Combs’ innocent sons and then marching them away in front of a news helicopter and the press,” Combs’ attorneys said in a news release Wednesday.

“This was an apparent attempt to convey that they had overwhelming evidence against Mr. Combs that justified the public and brutal treatment of even his children, who were handcuffed and abused by federal agents armed with assault rifles,” the statement continued .

In addition to the leaked video shared with CNN, Combs’ legal team reiterated their view that the moves were an attempt to “destroy” Combs’ reputation ahead of his upcoming trial.

“While the government’s misconduct in this case is particularly egregious, it is unfortunately part of a trend in this district – the government has learned that it can strategically leak information with impunity. This court should exercise its authority to prohibit these underhanded tactics that significantly undermine a defendant’s right to a fair trial.”
