Life sentence for child sexual abuse

Life sentence for child sexual abuse

On September 23, 2024, 268th District Court Presiding Judge Steve Rogers sentenced Robert Richard Tassin in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division to life in prison without parole for the crime of persistent sexual abuse of a young child. The 46-year-old Meadows Place man was also sentenced to twenty years in prison on two additional charges of sexual assault of a child.

Tassin pleaded guilty to all three offenses on July 23, 2024. Assistant District Attorney Alycia Curtis presented evidence during a sentencing hearing on September 23 that showed Tassin began sexually abusing a family member when the child was about eight years old and continued that abuse over a period of fourteen Years. During this time, Tassin abused the victim almost daily and was able to silence the child by convincing her that sexual contact between an adult and a child was “normal,” as well as through grooming techniques and emotional abuse.

Curtis said: “The scale and extent of the sexual abuse in this case was difficult to understand. All children deserve to feel safe in their home, and Tassin betrayed his role as protector and protector by manipulating this child for his own sexual gain for nearly fifteen years. I am so proud of the child for his courage to come forward and for helping to get Tassin where he belongs and not being able to chase a child for the rest of his life.”

Curtis praised the hard work of the Meadows Place Police Department in investigating this case and expressed his deep gratitude to Child Advocates of Fort Bend for the therapy services the department has provided to the victim since the abuse became known.
