Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for recording and recounting sexual assault of child in North Texas

NORTH TEXAS – A man who provided a running commentary while videotaping the sexual assault of a 14-year-old mentally disabled girl was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison, prosecutors said Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeade sentenced 43-year-old Vincent Jerome Thompson to 240 months in prison, required Thompson to register as a sex offender and ordered a lifetime of supervised release.

Thompson pleaded guilty in June to producing and aiding and abetting child pornography. His co-conspirator, 46-year-old Lukumond Adebola Olatunji, pleaded guilty to kidnapping a minor. Olatunji is scheduled to be sentenced in December.

Thompson and Olatunji were indicted in January 2022.

“No child deserves the humiliation this child suffered,” U.S. Attorney Leigha Simonton said in a news release. “The insensitivity of the defendant’s comments on the video he shot, even as the victim begged the perpetrators to release him, shocks the conscience. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is proud to stand up for this little girl – and every child abused in this behavior.”

Travis Pickard, special agent in charge of HSI Dallas, said Thompson and Olatunji “coerced and sexually abused a child without regard to the lifelong trauma their actions would inflict on their victim.”

“Protecting minors from child abuse remains a high priority for HSI,” Pickard said in the release. “We will never relent in our efforts to arrest those who seek to abuse our most vulnerable citizens.”

According to authorities, on October 23, 2021, the two men approached the teenager and offered her a ride home, then drove her to an alley where Thompson videotaped and recounted how Olatunji found her in the back seat of the car sexually abused.

In the video, the child can be heard saying, “I don’t want to do it anymore” and “Can we go?”

The two then took the teenager to a motel, where she continued to be sexually abused, according to authorities. After about five hours in the motel room, she finally escaped with her backpack and shoes.

Police found condom packaging and drug paraphernalia in the room, the statement said.

“In interviews with law enforcement, both men admitted to having sexual intercourse with the child,” the release said. “Mr Olatunji admitted that the child had repeatedly told them that he no longer wanted to have sex.”

The prosecutor noted at Wednesday’s hearing that the victim was mentally disabled.
