There is “no doubt” Odie Leigh delivers a great show – “The Simpsons”.

I’ve been a fan of Odie’s music since I found “Crop Circles” on TikTok a little over two years ago. So I was excited to see Odie Leigh stop live at xBk in Des Moines as part of her Carrier Pigeon Tour.

An hour before doors opened, fans started lining up (my roommates and I included), excited for the show. When the show began two hours later, the 250-seat venue was full.

The show began with opening act Blood Root, an indie rock artist who is also a member of Leigh’s band. She took the stage with her guitar and played several songs, including two from her upcoming album. After her short, beautiful appearance, she left an exciting energy in the room.

Leigh took the stage around 9 p.m. and began her performance with “My Name on a T-shirt,” “No Doubt” and “Already (On My Mind),” three songs from her new album. She performed various songs from her EPs “How Did It Seem to You?” and “The Only Thing Worse Than a Woman Who Lies Is a Girl Who’ll Tell Truths” as well as most of the songs from her new album.

“Carrier Pigeon” tells stories about Leigh falling in love, each song tells a story and all the feelings that come with it. In all of her works, she writes her songs like confessional stories, and she does an excellent job of incorporating vulnerable emotions.

She played most of her songs with her band, but she also played a few by herself in the middle of the show. The few solo songs were mostly played with acoustic guitar, which gave the show a more personal and intimate feel. During this time she performed some of her older works, including “Crop Circles”.

Leigh urged fans to share their music with at least two friends and not to keep their music to themselves. She wants to bring her music to as many people as possible and continue to put on entertaining shows.

She did a great job engaging with the audience throughout her set. Leigh encouraged everyone to form a “chill” mosh pit during a song, which resulted in everyone walking in a compact circle in the middle of the floor. I didn’t take part, but it was a really entertaining sight. She also had everyone singing along to parts of “Ronnie’s Song” and “Party Trick.”

My favorite time when she got the audience singing along was during “Take Back.” Towards the end of the song, she asked everyone to think of moments they wanted to take back and instructed everyone to scream the last few bars of the song as loudly as possible in relief.

The show was so much fun and everyone I saw had a smile on their face. Even on the songs that Leigh didn’t have everyone singing along to, the sound of the audience singing along could be heard on every song.

Leigh last played the Hinterland Music Festival in Iowa in August, and it’s “a good thing” that she made another stop in Iowa this year. It was amazing to finally see her perform.
