Two Thornton police officers were hit by gunfire in a neighborhood north of Denver on Wednesday morning. Police surrounded a home in the 16000 block of Columbine Street after reports of shots fired from inside a home.

Officials asked the public to avoid the area near 160th and York in Orchard Farms Township.

According to Thornton police on X, shots were fired from inside the home. The officers were treated at the scene in my medical department.

It is unclear what happened leading up to the shooting.

CBS News Colorado’s helicopter flew over the scene and showed a large police presence. Several patrol cars were parked in front of the house and along the block. The area was cordoned off. There were also several ambulances on site.
