The Central Criminal Investigation Department arrests 30 people for drug offenses, including 25 for drug trafficking

Georgia’s Interior Ministry said on Wednesday that officers from the Central Criminal Investigation Department had arrested 30 people for drug crimes, including 25 for drug trafficking.

The agency found that officers had seized “large and particularly large” quantities of narcotics from the group involving Georgian and foreign citizens, some of whom had previous criminal records.

The perpetrators are accused of illegal sales, attempted illegal sales and illegal purchase and storage of drugs and marijuana.

The arrests came after a judge ruled that officers permitted controlled purchases of drugs from the alleged perpetrators as well as undercover audio and video recordings.

The ministry said that among the substances seized in the homes of the arrested persons, during their personal searches and at locations specified by the perpetrators, were MDMA, amphetamine, methamphetamine, heroin, buprenorphine, methadone, ketamine, tramadol, mephedrone, alpha -PVP and marijuana were included.

Electronic scales and a “large amount of money” allegedly derived from the sale of the drugs were also confiscated.

The crimes are punishable by up to 20 years in prison or life in prison.
