A five-year-old has died after an accidental shooting, according to the Pitt Co. Sheriff’s Office

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina sheriff’s office says a 5-year-old is dead after he was accidentally shot by a sibling Tuesday night.

According to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, a five-year-old child was found shot in the head at a home north of Greenville, 628 Deborah Court.

The sheriff’s office says the child died after being taken to ECU Health Medical Center.

Officials say the preliminary investigation revealed that a six-year-old sibling accidentally shot the five-year-old child around 7:10 p.m. last night

The sheriff’s office says no further details will be released at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
