Oak Lawn Cops issue 135 tickets during IL Child Passenger Safety Week

OAK LAWN, IL – Oak Lawn Police have increased enforcement of child safety laws during Illinois Child Passenger Safety Week to ensure the safety of young children traveling through the village. Between September 20th and 30th, officers issued 135 tickets.

“One of the easiest ways to protect your underage passengers is to make sure they are in the right
Seats and that the seats are installed correctly,” said Sgt. Nick Kumke of the Oak Lawn Police Department.

The results of the security campaign revealed:

Occupant Restraint System – 110
Electronic use – 2
Child seat – 10
DWLS/R – 1
Other (suspended/expired registration, vehicle equipment) – 12

The STEP campaign was funded by federal highway safety funds administered by the
Illinois Department of Transportation.
