Ipswich Town star Axel Tuanzebe almost loses his thumb in freak washing-up accident | British News

Ipswich Town defender Axel Tuanzebe reportedly required surgery when he almost lost a thumb in a freak accident while washing up.

The Premier League player was at home last week when a piece of glass broke, leaving a deep cut in his hand.

He needed urgent medical attention and surgery to save his thumb. reported the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old has emerged as a key player in Ipswich’s first season in the top flight for 22 years – but is now facing a lengthy break.

Ipswich coach Kieran McKenna revealed Tuanzebe missed his side’s 4-1 defeat at West Ham on Saturday after a “very unfortunate accident” and discussions were underway with a specialist about when the player can return following surgery.

“He sustained a hand injury, a very unfortunate accident,” McKenna said after the game.

He later announced on the club’s official channel, TownTV, that it was “not a minor injury”.

“We don’t know exactly when he’ll be back,” he added.

“They are still looking at the time frame, but it will be a significant period of time.”
