The NFC North is a scary place for the Bears right now

Don’t look now, but the NFC North may be the best division in the NFL.

The NFC North is the only division where every team is over .500 through Week 5, which is a pretty impressive feat.

Throughout history, the division has largely been dominated by the Packers. The Bears and Vikings each remained in power for a year or two, but eventually the Packers took it back. Only in the last two years have the Lions managed to gain a foothold and be successful. Despite everything, on paper they probably have the most dominant team.

Paper means nothing, however, as the Vikings sit at an impressive 5-0 and are one of only two remaining undefeated teams (along with the Kansas City Chiefs). The Lions were absent due to the break week, but are 3-1 and still have a path to becoming back-to-back division champions.

Rounding out the division, the Bears and Packers are in last place with a record of 3-2. Each organization took a different path to this record, but both are still positioned well heading into Week 6.

Entering Week 6, the Vikings will enter their bye week with an undefeated record. Meanwhile, the Lions face the Dallas Cowboys; The Green Bay Packers will host the Arizona Cardinals, the Bears will “host” the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. It’s a big week for NFC North football.

The Bears being in this division while trying to develop Caleb Williams is tough, but it’s their reality. Chicago won’t face a division rival until Week 11 (when the Packers host). But the Bears face a tough challenge as they face the NFC North six times in the final eight weeks of the season.

You also need to win the games on your schedule to stay afloat in a crowded division. Any loss against a non-division opponent will set you back. Although it may seem like a house of horrors, the Bears should view it as a unique opportunity to compete against quality opponents.
